For “En Tránsito,” Eglė Otto presents a constellation of works — “Fortunas Reise,” “Abendliche Akkumulation,” “Jeanne d’Arc II,” as well as “Fortuna auf Kur I” and “II” — in which identity does not appear as fixed, but as something set in motion. Her works draw on motifs from mythology, religion, and art history, yet translate them into contemporary, open constellations. In the Petersburg-style hanging, proximities emerge between figure, fragment, and projection that do not offer a linear narrative, but instead make perception itself tangible as a state of transition.

Eglė Otto is relevant to “En Tránsito” because her works do not narrate transition in a documentary way, but render it palpable as a shift between image, body, and meaning — precisely where perception and reality become unstable.

Eglė Otto is a German-Lithuanian artist living and working in Berlin and Hamburg. After studying at the University of Fine Arts Hamburg, she completed her diploma in painting in 2010 under Prof. Werner Büttner and Prof. Anselm Reyle.

Her work has been presented in numerous solo and group exhibitions nationally and internationally. In 2028, the Paula Modersohn-Becker Museum will present Otto’s first museum exhibition in Germany. In 2024, she was awarded the Goldrausch Artists’ Project in Berlin.

Alongside her exhibition practice, Otto is actively engaged in teaching and critical discourse and held a teaching position at the University of the Arts Berlin in 2025. She has also given lectures at national and international professional institutions.

In her artistic practice, Otto understands painting as a contemporary space for thinking and experience, in which art-historical narratives, authorship, and corporeality are renegotiated. Her works draw on figures, motifs, and visual traditions from myth, religion, and art history, translating them into contemporary constellations. Rather than producing closed representations, she focuses on the conditions under which images, bodies, and meanings come into being.

In Otto’s work, motherhood, authorship, and artistic production do not function as isolated themes, but as interwoven practices through which art-historical categories and the canon itself are subjected to renewed inquiry.
