The work entre aqui e lá moves between personal history and collective experiences of migration. It understands identity as something fragile – constantly shifting, existing in a continuous state of en tránsito.

The artwork explores the experience of returning to a place that forms part of one’s biography, yet no longer feels like home.

A holiday photograph, an image typically associated with joy and lightness, is printed on transparent fabric. The material allows light to pass through, lending the image a sense of physical fragility.

In the photograph, the artist revisits a place where she once lived. She is neither a tourist nor a local, but rather suspended in between belonging and distance, memory and present experience.

The face in the picture is blurred, removing any clear, stable identity.

Ideas of belonging, memory, and home are brought into question. Home no longer appears as a stable geographical location, but as a shifting construct that changes with movement, time, and return.

Luisa Ehmke was born in 2001 in Germany and was partly raised in Brazil. This experience has shaped her perception of the world as well as her sense of self and continues to influence her artistic practice. Her work is primarily situated within the fields of sculpture and conceptual art. Questions evolving around her roots and identity play a central role in her practice.

Her artistic work focuses particularly on the relationship between humans and nature. Transience, power, and vulnerability are recurring themes that deeply concern her.
