For the third time – following the successful projects in 2023 and 2024 – a group of artists and curators from Hamburg and Ibiza will come together in Sant Antoni de Portmany. Together, they will artistically explore themes and margins of spirituality, the movement towards „elsewhere,“ and closely related challenges such as longing, desires, inspiration, happiness, as well as rootlessness and religion.
Already in 2023, the philosopher Walter Benjamin was a central figure, as he stayed in Sant Antoni de Portmany during the Nazi dictatorship. This year, his ideas again inspire the exhibition: „En Transíto – In spirit, we are elsewhere“ invites us to re-experience transitions, cultural encounters, and the longing for „elsewhere.“ The title reflects the quest for change and the movement between here and there, between memory and new beginnings.
Walter Benjamin’s concept of the „aura“ – the unique and unrepeatable nature of a work of art in the moment of encounter – serves as a philosophical foundation for the exhibition.
The choice of the Church of Sant Antoni de Portmany as the exhibition venue, with its sacred architecture, creates a unique atmosphere where the earthly and the transcendent can meet. Here, the exhibited works become a space of experience that makes the transition between past, present, and future tangible.
Additionally, the exhibition incorporates Benjamin’s concept of „now-time“: a moment where past and present merge into a creative state of longing and hope. The works tell stories of transitions, journeys, and deep yearning, inviting viewers to pause and perceive themselves as part of this process.
„EnTransíto“ is an invitation to question one’s connection to art, space, and time, to look beyond cultural and spiritual boundaries, and to discover a new perspective in the in-between spaces – whether between Hamburg and Ibiza or between here and elsewhere.
For one week, selected artists and students will work and interact with the curatorial team of „En Transíto“ around the Church of Sant Antoni de Portmany. They will reflect on an ever-changing reality and artistically address the questions arising from it. Central themes include longing, desires, inspiration, transition, and the search for happiness.
As an exchange, an exhibition will take place in October 2025 in Hamburg. A version with small-format works from the exhibition in Sant Antoni de Portmany will then be shown in the LINKSRECHTS space in the Gängeviertel.

Por tercera vez – tras los exitosos proyectos de 2023 y 2024 – un grupo de artistas y curadores de Hamburgo e Ibiza se reunirán en Sant Antoni de Portmany. Juntos abordarán artísticamente temas y márgenes de la espiritualidad, el movimiento hacia „otro lugar“ y los desafíos estrechamente vinculados como el anhelo, los deseos, la inspiración, la felicidad, pero también la falta de orientación y la religión.
Ya en 2023, el filósofo Walter Benjamin estuvo en el centro del proyecto, pues durante la dictadura nazi permaneció en Sant Antoni de Portmany. Este año, su pensamiento vuelve a inspirar la exposición: „En Transíto – En espíritu, estamos en otro lugar“ invita a redescubrir los pasos intermedios, los encuentros culturales y el anhelo por „otro lugar“. El título refleja la búsqueda de cambio y el movimiento entre el aquí y el allá, entre la memoria y el inicio de algo nuevo.
El concepto de „aura“ de Walter Benjamin – lo único e irrepetible de una obra de arte en el momento del encuentro – forma una base filosófica para la exposición.
La elección de la Iglesia de Sant Antoni de Portmany como lugar de exposición, con su arquitectura sagrada, crea una atmósfera única donde lo terrenal y lo trascendental pueden encontrarse. Aquí, las obras exhibidas se convierten en un espacio de experiencia que hace perceptible la transición entre pasado, presente y futuro.
Además, la exposición aborda el concepto de „tiempo-ahora“ de Benjamin: un momento en el que pasado y presente se fusionan en un estado creativo de anhelo y esperanza. Las obras narran transiciones, el estado de estar en camino y el profundo anhelo que invita al espectador a detenerse y comprenderse como parte de este proceso.
„EnTransíto“ es una invitación a cuestionar la propia conexión con el arte, el espacio y el tiempo, a mirar más allá de las fronteras culturales y espirituales y a descubrir una nueva perspectiva en los espacios intermedios, ya sea entre Hamburgo e Ibiza o entre el aquí y el otro lugar.
Durante una semana, artistas seleccionados y estudiantes trabajarán e interactuarán junto al equipo curatorial de „En Transíto“ alrededor de la Iglesia de Sant Antoni de Portmany. Reflejarán una realidad en constante transformación y abordarán artísticamente las cuestiones que surgen de ella. Los temas centrales incluyen el anhelo, los deseos, la inspiración, la transición y la búsqueda de la felicidad.
Como intercambio, en octubre de 2025 se realizará una exposición en Hamburgo. Una versión con obras de pequeño formato de la exposición en Sant Antoni de Portmany será presentada en el espacio LINKSRECHTS en el Gängeviertel.

Zum dritten Mal – nach den erfolgreichen Projekten in den Jahren 2023 und 2024 – wird sich eine Gruppe von Künstler:innen und Kurator:innen aus Hamburg und Ibiza in Sant Antoni de Portmany zusammenfinden. Gemeinsam setzen sie sich künstlerisch mit den Themen und Randbereichen von Spiritualität, der Bewegung ins Anderswo und den damit eng verknüpften Herausforderungen wie Sehnsucht, Wünsche, Inspiration, Glück aber auch der Haltlosigkeit und Religion auseinander.
Bereits 2023 stand der Philosoph Walter Benjamin im Fokus, der während der Zeit der Nazidiktatur in Sant Antoni de Portmany verweilte. Auch in diesem Jahr inspiriert seine Denkweise die Ausstellung: „En Transíto – Im Geiste sind wir anderswo“ lädt dazu ein, Übergänge, kulturelle Begegnungen und die Sehnsucht nach Anderswo neu zu erleben. Der Titel spiegelt das Streben nach Veränderung und die Bewegung zwischen Hier und Dort, zwischen Erinnerung und Aufbruch wider.
Walter Benjamins Begriff der „Aura“ – das Einzigartige und Unwiederholbare eines Kunstwerks im Moment der Begegnung – bildet eine philosophische Grundlage der Ausstellung.
Die Wahl der Iglesia de Sant Antoni de Portmany als Ausstellungsort, mit seiner sakrale Architektur schafft eine einzigartige Atmosphäre, in der sich Irdisches und Transzendentes begegnen können. Hier werden die ausgestellten Werke zu einem Erlebnisraum, der den Übergang zwischen Vergangenheit, Gegenwart und Zukunft spürbar macht.
Zudem greift die Ausstellung Benjamins Konzept der „Jetztzeit“ auf: einen Moment, in dem Vergangenheit und Gegenwart in einem kreativen Zustand der Sehnsucht und Hoffnung verschmelzen. Die Arbeiten erzählen von Übergängen, vom Unterwegssein und von der tiefen Sehnsucht, die den Betrachter einlädt, innezuhalten und sich selbst als Teil dieses Prozesses zu begreifen.
„EnTransito“ ist eine Einladung, die eigene Verbindung zu Kunst, Raum und Zeit zu hinterfragen, über kulturelle und geistige Grenzen hinauszublicken und in den Zwischenräumen eine neue Perspektive zu entdecken – sei es zwischen Hamburg und Ibiza oder zwischen Hier und Anderswo.
Für eine Woche werden ausgewählte Künstler*innen und Studierende gemeinsam mit dem Kurator:innenteam von „En Transíto“ rund um die Iglesia de Sant Antoni de Portmany arbeiten und interagieren. Dabei verweisen sie auf eine sich ständig wandelnde Wirklichkeit und verarbeiten künstlerisch die daraus entstandenen Fragestellungen. Im Zentrum stehen Themen wie Sehnsucht, Wünsche, Inspiration, Transition und die Suche nach Glück.
Im Austausch findet im Oktober 2025 eine Ausstellung in Hamburg statt. Eine Version mit kleinformatigen Arbeiten aus der Ausstellung in Sant Antoni de Portmany wird dann im Raum LINKSRECHTS im Gängeviertel gezeigt werden.
